Casual Workers What's the difference between casual work and permanent work?

For casual workers there is no expectation of regular and continuing employment, whereas for permanent employment there is an expectation of ongoing work. A key aspect of part-time employment is the prearranged regularity of the hours of work.

Am I really a casual?

Some employees are called "casual" but in practice they look more like a permanent workers. A genuine casual employment arrangement has the elements of informality, uncertainty and irregularity. If in doubt, get advice quickly.

Should my employer contribute to my superannuation fund if I am casual?

If you earn more than $450 gross per month, your employer should make payments to your superannuation fund (currently at the rate of 9%).

Are casual workers covered by WorkCover?
Yes, casuals have a right to work in a safe and healthy workplace.
